Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
